The RealFlex family of product sprouted the original Reebok Nano and the RealFlex Attack. At this time the RealFlex family was a blend of more flexible and anatomically correct performance footwear. The focus on function and natural movement was key to this successful product category.

 Researching the specific functional needs of Cross-fit movements showed us that no proper footwear was available at the time for this consumer. We needed to create something new.  We started by having a group of designers hit the ‘box’ to study each

Researching the specific functional needs of Cross-fit movements showed us that no proper footwear was available at the time for this consumer. We needed to create something new.

We started by having a group of designers hit the ‘box’ to study each exercise and its effect on regular athletic footwear. We examined where the footwear ripped, came apart, and got worn out. We learned what movements and exercises contributed to the destruction.

The challenge was then organizing and prioritizing our research. The bellow matrix looks at the most important and frequently performed exercises in Cross-fit/functional training programs.

 After creating the above matrix of the functional product needs, we then began ideating on products that would solve for the intended use-case. For example, the  NANO  tried to capture all of the functional movement needs (squats, deadlifts, push-up

For example, the NANO tried to capture all of the functional movement needs (squats, deadlifts, push-ups, double-unders, and rope climbs), whereas the Attack captured the functional needs for natural running, push-ups, and stretching.
